Take a stroll down memory lane to reveal my festive ghoul’s night out style over the years…From costumes to spooktacular accessories, in true MEANRO spirit, I always commit wholeheartedly to dressing up for Halloween celebrations. Whichever character I choose to dress up as usually has some underlying meaning. So, if you’re interested in getting a glimpse of my past and my way of thinking, grab yourself some candy corn and carry on.

*Drum roll please & thank you* I present to you a 10-year throwback of spooky style, with the exception of skipping Halloween 2017. So, creep a peep at my HISTORY OF MEANRO HALLOWEEN COSTUMES starting off with a peace-loving look I rocked back in Aruba as a freshly legal partygoer, aka in October 2011.

WARNING: I may or may not have been intoxicated in some, or all, of these photos and videos. Viewer discretion is advised. Scroll on, if you dare…

Avant Hippie at Ghost Town (2011)

I frolicked onto the Aruba Halloween nightlife scene as a hippie in 2011. I can’t really recall if I was staying at the Westin with one of my dearest & oldest of friends, Armindah, or if we were visiting other amigos while pre-gaming. However, as you can see she (the pirate) helped me complete my look with some peace-related permanent marker tattoos. Why a hippie? Peace vibes have always been my thing, even as a little girl I enjoyed flashing a peace sign for pics.

Winning at BEER PONG as Amy Winehouse (2012)

It was freshman year at college, and so naturally, any and all parties usually had a late notice. Which translates to last-minute costume. I chose to dress up as Amy Winehouse, because at the time my hair was pretty long and black. I remember having a lot of fun going to this house party with my roomie, Shelby. The highlight of the evening: winning at beer pong alongside my friend and fellow Megan, who was dressed devilishly cute. The funny thing is I’m not even great at beer pong, but always seem to win when it counts the most, haha!

Sophomore Year Goth a Bit More Witchy (2013)

My college roomie/one of my favorite people, Madz, and I decided to do matching costumes during Sophomore year. We wanted to go as gothic witches, but I’m gonna be honest I chickened out with the super dark makeup. I remember us looking up different symbols for the elements (earth, water, air & fire) online, and then drawing them for each other (with sharpie, again, haha). I’ve always liked witchy things though. Sabrina the Teenage Witch? Love her & Salem. Harry Potter? After watching the first HP movie I was patiently waiting to see if I’d get an invite to Hogwarts when I turned twelve. Lolzies.

Pink Power Ranger Means it’s Morphin’ Time! (2014)

Ok, so, I have very serious opinions about the power rangers. Loved watching the show when I was a little kid with my twin sister, Tasha, and cousin, Brandon. To this day, I can clearly remember thinking how I wanted to be Kimberly, the pink ranger, but I liked Trini, aka the yellow ranger’s outfit more. So when I decided to dress up as a power ranger, I went for pink, but made it more me. So yeah, sexy pink power ranger frolicked on the St. Augustine streets for Halloween 2014, after hitting up the pregame at the International House.

Beamed Down to Earth for Some Alien Fun on Fright Night (2015)

I find space fascinating, to say the least. Stargazing, looking at the sky for UFOs, anything cosmic, and I’m down! Aside from my interest in the galactic, let’s be real, I am fully aware that I’m kinda weird and live in my own world. Sometimes being myself has felt a bit out of place in, well, many places and situations, but I’ve learned to embrace it over the years and rock my weirdness with pride. Dressing up as an alien to me meant “I’m a bit otherworldly at times, but yeah, I lurve it.”

Oh My Glob, It’s LSP aka Lumpy Space Princess (2016)

Adventure Time is one of my all-time favorite animated TV shows ever created. It’s really hard to pick a fave character of the show, but I think LSP aka Lumpy Space Princess is def one of them. I consider LSP as one of my spirit animals. Her sass is out of this world. Her confidence is prime. She’s got so many emotions and not afraid to share them. Plus, her boy craziness reminds me of when I was little and had like a million crushes. Honoring LSP for Halloween was hands down one of the easiest decisions in my life.

“Pet Me…with Your Eyes!” Meme Cat (2016)

I decided to dress up as the “Pet Me…With Your Eyes” cat meme, because that’s how I feel on the inside. Especially with all of the social media shenanigans. But yeah, you can look, but don’t fucking touch me. Anyways, bonus to this night was that someone had a giant taco as their costume accessory and I got to take a pic with it. Thus living TWO memes in one night: “pet me…with your eyes” cat AND “tacocat is tacocat spelled backwards”. I was so stoked on this. If you can’t tell, I truly enjoy the simple things in life, haha.

CaribMedia Office Costumes: Space Cat & BatGyal (2018/19)

Oh the office Halloween costume days…these were pretty simple, as they couldn’t be inconvenient for my work flow with all of the multitasking I was doing back then. In 2018 I decided to call myself a space cat. Why? Well, I love cats and space. For Halloween 2019 I went all-black-errthang and matched it with a batman mask, creating what I call BatGyal. I’ve always digged Batman. Not a big Batgirl fan, so I just chose that name to inspire a look that represented a mixture of batman with some island gal feelz.

Up in Smoke at CHAOS Aruba as Cheech Marin (2019)

It’s no secret that I believe in the legalization of marijuana. Lolzies. In my opinion, and don’t get me wrong because I enjoy some wine time as well, but alcohol is far more dangerous than weed will ever be. Ok, so back to the Halloween costume: in 2019 I decided to dress up as Cheech and Chong from the Up in Smoke movie with my ex. My favorite thing about this look was the fact that I had a fake moustache in my pocket and I would pull it out from time to time. Hahaha.

Britney Spears, but Specifically…BABY ONE MORE TIME (2020)

If you know me well enough, then you know that “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears is my GO-TO karaoke song. This 100% stems off from the fact that she was one of my idols growing up. Personally, I’m surprised I didn’t do a Britney look earlier in my life, but I’m so happy I finally got to dress up like her and sing her song in the middle of an Oranjestad road, in costume.

FIRE Turned into a Venezuelan Troupial (2021)

My mouth was a bit occupied with sweet treats in picture one of my orange-dominant attire, but let me get to explaining the randomness that was my costume for Halloween 2021 festivities. I was supposed to be fire, like the element, but forgot my flaming tutu. Thanks to my friend Adri’s help, I improvised with a feathery bottom. Thus transforming me more into a Venezuelan troupial bird for the evening, but hey, either way, I had fun frolicking around this night. Wondering why fire? Well, it’s the element I resonate the most with aside from the fact that it is connected to the Leo sun sign.

Look at you, such a daredevil. Made it all the way down to my troupial rising from glittery ashes halloween look of 2021…*virtual kisses for you*, but only virtual, because the “pet me with your eyes” cat in me is still very much alive. Ok, byeeee. Asta next time, curious cat!
