It’s 2024, and I virtually bumped into a Facebook post I had written on a rainy September Sunday in Aruba back in 2018 (yes, 6 years ago, thank you Meta Memories for the reminder…you always seem to have the perfect timing, but hey that might just be the artificial intelligence doing it’s thing hehe). Back to the point of this post. I found strength and compassion in my reflective writing about endings and changes.
Looking back now, I know I was going through a lot of pains in those times, yet I still had the urge, the need, to share kindness and compassion whether voicing it out loud was for other’s to hear or just to make it an in-your-face kind of statement to remind my self to be strong and seek the silver lining… Either way, I appreciate these following words of wisdom from Past Me.
When gloom comes knocking on your door
Thinking about “Summertime Sadness“… you know those not-so-pleasant feels people get when a lover is a lover no more, or when the realization of the season changing kicks in, or that classic summer days slowly sway away into rainy ones.
Some perspective to give you back your power
My message to you, and to me too: without feelings of sadness, you could not feel those exhilaratingly good ones -you wouldn’t recognize or appreciate them as much. Remember this.

Take what fills you up & leave the rest as dust
With the end to any relationship, whatever it may have been, there are sure to be wonderful memories to cherish, and lessons to learn from -remember to think about the things you love-love-loved & the things that made you cringe. Take these notes with you as you continue on your path. Learn & grow.
Focus: fill up your heart & spark up your eyes
When it comes to the rain, be more empathetic and selfless. Think about the trees that continue to grow with the showers, and the animals that thrive for a random puddle of water, but also think about the feeling of a raindrop touching your skin and how for those few milliseconds its like the sky is trying to remind you that you’re alive.
