2020 HIGHLIGHTS: Proof That Beauty Sessions Make a Difference

2020-highlights-proof-that-beauty-sessions-and-pamper-days-matter-meanro-blog-january-2021

2020 may have felt bleached out at times, but true highlights of the year for me were my beauty sessions at Harms Hairstyling & Beauty Parlor. This cozy and locally-owned beauty salon has been a fam-favorite spot for 4 generations (& counting), and I truly trust them with every strand on my head. Leo & Danielle, the hair gurus & owners, tend to my tresses with such fabulous care that I always end up leaving the place feeling like I’m ON TOP OF THE WORLD.

Hence the point of this blog: to remind us all of how much a little self care and pampering can do for your mood and vibe.

I started joining my mom & aunt on their monthly beauty sessions at this Savaneta-based beauty salon, and I’m glad I did. There’s just something about letting your hair down, closing your eyes while your mane is being taken care of, and then opening them to find a fab revamped look. What can I say? It just boosts you with good energy.

Highlights to Help Bring Blondie Back

I truly enjoy indulging in every moment of the pamper process. From wash, to cut, to blowouts and getting curls. I love it all! So much so that, yes, I tend to take selfies (even with a full head of foils or curlers) — in true MEXTRA manner, of course.

I say, why not share snaps of the WHOLE process, rather then just the before and after? If you prefer the latter that’s up to you, but for me – I don’t mind sharing my experience. I like to think of it as the BTS (behind-the-scenes) of beauty sessions. Hehe.

Capturing Waves of Curls on Camera

A good friend of mine once told me that she was taught to always dress up for salon sessions, because then the stylists will do an extra good job on your do. I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I do think you should dress up. Heck! I’m someone who’ll even dress up to go to the gas station or ATM. Why? Just ’cause I can and it makes me feel nice on the inside.

So, I say dress up, but most of all, do it for yourself!

Dress up for Your Beauty Days to Feel Extra Lovely

This next statement is probably going to sound conceited at first, but gimme a chance to explain.

I check myself out in the mirror all-the-time, I enjoy doing it, and you should too.

If there’s a mirror, window reflection, or something that I can look at myself in, there’s a 98% chance that I will. These are just #MEANROfacts. I check myself out. I smile at myself. I say YES to myself. Sometimes I even strike poses – it depends on the mood, haha.

I really believe this has helped me build my own confidence and self esteem.

Felt kinda weird when I heard this for the first time, but my mom told me that when I was a toddler she would catch me smiling at myself in the car mirror while I was in my carseat.

So0o, no one really taught me this trick or “training”, but I would 100% recommend it to everyone: check yourself out & smile (or smize) when you do!

Take a lesson from bebe MEANRO and let YOU love you. When you show yourself love, you glow oh-so-bright. It’s true.

Yes I know, everyone has insecurities, everyone has bad “days” (or moments), but the more you “train” yourself to accept and love all of you, especially pre-beauty sessions, the better. It’s about working on self-awareness and appreciation.

The way I see it.. when you do practice some self-care or pampering, you’ll just feel EXTRA full of good vibes. You know what they say…”As Within, So Without.”

So, I have this theory that if getting pampered can bring me so much extra joy and confidence, I think it can do the same for you too.

✩ TRIGGER WARNING: you might feel inspired to book your next beauty appointment after seeing me strut my stuff leaving my December 2020 salon visit below. 😆

But, seriously that in itself is proof enough for me that beauty sessions really do make a difference.

It’s safe to say that this once-a-month beauty date can pep up my whole day. So imagine prioritizing more beauty moments throughout your month (or week), and what that could do for your perspective of self – and life.

You don’t have to break the bank to invest in a little TLC for yourself either. If you can afford a session at the beauty salon or spa, great for you (support local, & enjoy being pampered!). However, if you’re looking for more budget-friendly beauty session alternatives, I compiled a list of ideas you could try – just keep scrolling to discover them.
